The Forgiveness Possibility

Friday 8th July 2022, 15:00-16:00 | Online
Presenter:
Jesica Eames

Forgiveness is a complicated experience in a relationship. We tend to have an assumption in Imago that if we put couples into good dialogue and keep them in good dialogue, ruptures will heal over time. While this is often true, when we are dealing with betrayal and all of the depths of dissolve that come with betrayal, different ways of healing exist that carry varying levels of depth. Couples need a comprehensive set of skills to recover from betrayal and one piece that is most longed for but often the hardest to get our arms around is the forgiveness piece. Forgiveness is a complicated experience for people. As Imago therapists we are uniquely equipped to provide couples with tools around forgiveness. Yet forgiveness has been under explored in Imago. Work around forgiveness is intentional and directive rather than a naturally occurring result of the couples’ work around a crisis or betrayal. Jesica and her Imago practice partners created an advanced training for therapists called The Forgiveness Possibility. Come spend an hour discussing some highlights from this training where she will share some of the ideas, dialogues, and research from this course that may open the possibility of forgiveness for couples.

Jesica Eames, LCSW/JD, is a Clinical Instructor and Faculty Member of the Imago International Training Institute who practices in the United States in Atlanta, Georgia. She has been in a relationship with her partner Brian for more than 30 years (they were 16 on their first date). Jesica and Brian found their way to Imago in 1994 when they were 24 years old and struggling. Imago has been the foundation of their relationship ever since.
